The History of the Deck Shoe

The deck shoe is actually from across the pond, also known as a boat shoe, and was invented by American Paul Sperry in the 1930’s. He cut slits into the sole of his shoes and discovered that they were the ideal shoe for sailing!

During the 1960’s the deck shoe came into the UK market and has been a popular fashion and sailing statement ever since. Often worn with sailing outfits or with more formal wear these shoes have been worn by everyone including the Duchess of Cambridge and are a firm favourite with the British market.

Most deck shoes feature non-marking soles so that they can be worn onboard any yacht without making marks and follow the standard moccasin- style construction.
